Clear Resin 3D Printing Process

Womp uses SLA (Stereolithography) technology for 3D printing, offering unmatched detail and smooth finishes. Here's how it works:

How it works

Stereolithography (SLA) creates 3D objects by curing liquid resin with a laser, layer by layer. A computer-guided laser traces each layer's shape onto the resin's surface, causing it to solidify. The platform rises after each layer, allowing the next to form. After printing, the object is cleaned and UV-cured for strength.

Solid prints recommended for clear resin

While hollow printing can reduce costs, clear prints should remain solid for the best visual quality. Hollow clear prints face several technical and aesthetic challenges:

Problems with hollowed clear prints

  • Visible internal structure: Support structures and walls become visible through the transparent material, compromising the crystal-clear appearance
  • Light distortion: Internal surfaces can create unwanted reflections and refractions, affecting the optical clarity
  • Required drain holes: Essential holes for resin removal will be visible in the final piece, impacting the overall aesthetics
  • Imperfect curing: Trapped resin inside hollow spaces may not fully cure, leading to potential quality issues
  • Cleaning complexity: Without proper drainage, uncured resin can remain trapped inside, affecting the print's clarity and stability

CR Specifications

Properties

  • High resolution (25-100 microns)
  • Smooth surface finish
  • Excellent detail reproduction
  • Good dimensional accuracy
  • Perfect for display pieces and final products
  • Can be sanded, polished, and finished for end-use parts

Color and finish

The preview colors shown in Womp may vary from the final print. Custom colors will be matched to the closest Pantone color.

Available in both matte and glossy finishes to suit your project needs.

UV exposure may cause subtle color changes over time.
For best color stability, keep your print out of direct sunlight or consider additional protective coatings.

Post-processing options

  • Basic finishing: Sanding, polishing
  • Decorative finishes: Dip coating

Each method can improve your print's appearance and durability. Keep in mind that some methods require special care and expertise.

Safety considerations

Clear Resin (CR) is not food safe without additional treatment. It's also not bio-compatible or skin safe for prolonged contact without protective coating or paint.

For food-related or skin-contact applications, additional treatments or coatings are necessary to ensure safety.
